Hi I'm Karen, a Canadian-Taiwanese architect turned athlete, tedtalk speaker, founder of Ooh Eau (Wakesurf Accessory brand), and passionate Team Rider for Kanuk. From riding my first Kanuk board in 2018, to becoming a 10x National Champion in China, to turning pro in 2023 and designing "Silver Lining" my first Pro Model board, I am grateful to be on this crazy journey with the most supportive TEAM KANUK that pushes athletes internationally to make their mark in the industry and promote the sport through coaching and competing. This sport has taken me all over the world (Taiwan, Korea, Japan, Malaysia, Thailand, China, Hong Kong, Canada, US, Switzerland) and I find meaning in the impact of exchange and community. I'm now setting up a Wakesurf operation in the Indian Ocean on Mauritius Island, in the hopes of bringing riders together to have fun and learn. I coach privately, consult for wakeschools, as well as judge and organize competitions. It's a cool thing to challenge yourself and reach your goals. Having placed first in the CWSA World Championships (Amateur ‘22) and becoming the Rank Champion in the Semi Pro Division (Outlaw '23), I've also experienced setbacks and disappointments...which is why I created the "Silver Lining" Pro Model. The design of Silver Lining is inspired by the glimmers of light refracted in the water and the purity of passion. It's a reminder that despite the setbacks in training and the sometimes consuming darkness of defeat, we can persevere if we follow the light within ourselves. It is also a dedication to the memory of my mother, whose death is the reason I started wakesurfing. "When everything goes dark, always remember to look for the Silver Lining"
